SUBJECT: Nominations for the Young Champion for Change Award
The Network for a Healthy California (Network) is soliciting nominations for the 2009 inaugural Young Champion for Change Award. This is a new award created to honor and recognize a youth leader (ages 9-20) that has exhibited exceptional leadership, dedication and commitment to creating a healthier and more active community for themselves, their peers, their families, and their community.
The recipient of this award will be recognized at an award ceremony to be held in conjunction with the Network Annual Conference, which will take place in March 2009 to be held at the Sacramento Convention Center.
The Young Champion for Change Award will be presented to a youth leader that best displays the following skills:
- Perseverance and consistent commitment to an innovative nutrition and/or physical activity project in their local organization and or school.
- Demonstrates excellent leadership skills, communication skills and a strong sense of teamwork at their respective local site.
- Sincere and constant involvement in a local project that has led to the increased consumption of fruits and vegetables and/or increased access to daily physical activity/play.
- Ability to thoughtfully articulate to stakeholders, partners and community leaders the importance of their local work, as well as importance of the Network’s mission.
